Even on Vivaldi …

I was intimidated to create a new blog in Bahasa Indonesia, only some days after my account on their Social (built on Mastodon) was set up. What's the motivation? Not so clear, just want to write on good services. Enough.

Domain Name Had Been Changed

On a post, it was written that my domain name used MY.ID. This is not correct anymore: it had been changed to IKHLASULAMAL.ID, no more MY. Right sidebar has been corrected, too.

Thank you for your attentions.

Following Google's blog about their Translate's new feature, I was reminded my own playground on Blogspot. This wise-blog, Wislog!

Looking at the latest post, 3 October 2014, it was ten years later! Precisely, 3559 days according to Time and Date. No surprise, just a challenge again!

Back to Blogs

Posting on #direktif, arrange some late links to MY.ID, and today is my plan to write for blogs more and more.

Psst, somebody has invited me to attend opening ceremony for roaster restaurant in Bandung, as blogger.

298 Days

Last time I wrote here was on 12 August last year. It is 298 days long: short for memory, but long enough to realize that it was not yesterday or last month anymore. Social media still rock – spend too much time there, blogs wake up and fall – fluctuative. Still, the joy of joining new services often comes and lands on sign up pages. Maintenance cost more than account registration; I know, but enjoying good service offering new user experiences is simply another side.

That is: 298 days without any posting here and now I am coming and writing.

"To return back the joy of writing". Thank you.

Time for About.me

I love About.me and use it at least on every signature below my email. Unfortunately, it was long time enough I did not visit and log its website in. Until this night: I found two old friends starred my page – I thought it was a poke rather than a fave, and a new friend did the same. Great and thank you all, I had responded them.

Second thing was changing my page to English. I had no spesific reason on doing this, but it looks "more readable" to more users. Done!

How about photo? Sorry, I have no newer self-portrait, so I left it untouched. If you are also About.me user, feel free to leave message there.

Enough for now.

Time makes stories,
writing makes friends.

Attending blogging talkshow in Karisma Masjid Salman ITB, Jalan Ganesha, Bandung, I met old friends and new teenage bloggers. On the rising of Tumblr users here, I was late to know them understanding each others on Tumblr and having meetup several times. An announcement reminded us that Bandung Tumblr users will hold Ramadan break fasting gathering this Friday afternoon. Keep moving, Tumblr fans!

"Histeria" Blogging Talkshow

An old friend asked me about monthly Comic meetup in Bandung that was stopped a few years ago. I explained him latest conditions, and he suggested me to do restarting Comic. Rather than giving him promises regarding this issue, I find myself interested on this idea, the weather is good, so why not? After great Eid ul-Fitr holiday, I thought, will be a good time to start.

Yes, friends, who know me by my writing and still remember me.
Thank you.

Yesterday I motivated my daughter to start blogging, as part of her assignment from bahasa Indonesia class. She was a bit confused at first: what was proper name for her blog, what is interesting story to write, and rather philosophically, "Why do I need to blog?" After some technical instructions, some HOWTOs, and some faster ways to start, she looked enjoying this new adventure, beside her Twitter and Tumblr. Good, and keep writing.

Finally, this is also something pushing me to keep posting entries regularly. I will try, promise.

Darren Rowse wrote some points to handle criticism for blogger, while I think it is very helpful for many cases. Noted here for me myself and also some of friends who like to discuss about critics. Its points:

  1. Embrace criticism – "Not everyone will agree with you all of the time, but negative feedback is a sign that you’re making people think".
  2. Consider the criticism – "Some criticisms are better than others".
  3. Making use of criticism – "Take the emotion out of the criticism".
  4. Take it on board – "Now’s the time to take the criticism on board—but not emotionally so much as practically".

Clear, Netty is Easier than MINA

Note on TCP Server framework: first we examined Apache MINA, then Netty is found easier.

perihal:

"We found everything easier in Netty. Period. While we were trying to reimplement the same functionality we already had on MINA, we did so from scratch. By following the excellent documentation and examples we ended up with more functionality in much, much less code."

Symbol of Capitalism?

From Jakarta to Toronto, big brands like McDonalds, Starbucks, becomes "victims" of people demonstrations and riots. In anger, those brands are symbols opponents hate, fight, then destruct.

Not an exception during G8 and G20 Summits in Ontario, Canada.

in reference to:

"Opponents to the G20 demonstrated during 4 days, the larger demonstration taking place on Saturday 26. A group of 200 to 300 "black blocks" split from the peaceful march and went in rampage throughout the city center for a couple of hours, smashing windows of banks and symbolic stores (McDonald, Starbuck, etc.) and burning down a couple of police cars."

Mr. Hawk explains his math regarding his goal to publish 1,000,000 photos before he dies. A great ambition, and also nice means photo session "all the time."

I myself was inspired by the intention to capture more, more, and more things around, either as raw source or somewhat "historical stuffs" in the future. Surely, a million is very very big number, but ten thousands photo for starting really keeps my spirit up to bring camera anywhere and do exercise anytime.

Well done!

in reference to:
"The math is working ok. I have 40,000 online and am uploading about 44 a day. At this rate I will have 1,000,000 in 59.7 years or when I'm 102. That obviously won't work. Although you never know just how long you might live. But. I've got abou 20,000 photos in a reserve right now that are processed and could be uploaded. My goal is to increase this reserve account over the course of the next 20 years and also to gradually increase the number of uploads per day over time."

Original Kids' Stories -- Free and Share!

Seen through Eric Setiawan's Buzz today, Smories.com is a nice site for kids to share free original stories. They tell there are 50 stories added every month. The initiative is for kids and read by kids also. The kids world, in short.

I have tried to access one story, it consisted the story itself and also a video. Unfortunately, the video was failed to play. I am not sure if it is about wrong URL or my connection.

Apart from that, I love much the front page of their web. Simple by very short introduction, followed by a full page of kids' face thumbnails. All of them -- you guessed -- are the story tellers themselves.

Want to contribute? Submit yours! -- they invite. How about the language? Seems for today it starts on English.

No serious problem, it is very possible for non-English speakers: it is time to learn English for their kids.

Hughes Léglise-Bataille wrote on his Flickr profile that he ended his investment banking and started photojournalism. An outstanding decision and a correct one, especially if we see his amazing achievement on his works on Flickr.

Quoted:

"In June 2008, I finally decided to put an end to a 13-year career in investment banking to dedicate myself to photojournalism."

The Problem with Geolocation-based System Defined by Users

As Malk wrote:

"Well, you are a Superuser, so it's easy for you to fix things. But us normal users can't even flag a place we know there is a duplicate."

Agree, facing incorrect data made me frustrated; they include (but not limited): duplication (fail on integrity), misspelling and unaware to punctuation (sick to my eyes), and incomplete (oh no, for laziness!).

On Picnik Acquired by Google

(1) How about Picnik's support on Flickr, a prestigious Yahoo! product? Picnik is today online editing on Flickr; and also remember how Flickr changed Moo printing to Snapfish from HP.

(2) How if Google pays all of us to use Picnik with all features, so there is no need to separate between free and paid users?

The Problem with Package Manager

As always, package manager is avoided by at least two reasons:

1. no (or not yet exist) easy and clean easy uninstall. Working directories, configurations, and even package list are all getting difficult to manage.
2. multiple, or perhaps mixed, package managers will have greater possibilities to interfere each other. It leads to unresolved state.
